It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and I thought it would be fun to share my crochet hearts pattern! :) I’ve used these a lot when I was still making heart headbands for my Etsy shop and I recently ‘found’ this pattern again when a customer asked for some customizations in the form of heart appliqués.
They’re quick and very easy to make; you’ll have a whole bunch of them in no time! :) Let’s get started.
- – yarn in pretty colors
- – a crochet hook that matches the yarn
- – a pair of scissors
- – a darning needle to weave in the ends
This pattern uses US abbreviations.
1. Make a magic ring, and secure with a stitch.
2. Chain 3, 3tr, 3dc, chain 1, 1tr, chain 1, 3dc, 3tr, chain 3 in the ring.
4. Cut the yarn and pull through the loop on your hook. Insert your hook from back to front through the center and pull the tail to the back. Pull the ring closed and voilá!
5. Sew in the ends using your needle and make as many hearts as you want! :)
Now go forth and bomb your house with hearts; you can use these to make garlands, or get some felt and glue and stick them on a headband…
Have fun!

PS And no, that last picture isn’t me but an actual model; this picture was shot for my Etsy shop. But thanks for the compliments ;)

Yay I just made one! And it’s so cute, not quite as neat as yours but close. I’ve only been crocheting for a short time and had to figure out how to do the “magic ring” (found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLuSVyKvoUg). Once I figured that, it only took me a few minutes.
Thanks, now I’m off to make some more.

Thank you for the lovely tutorial. I will use my hearts to decorate a cushion :-)
I also had trouble with the abbreviations and the language, so here is my german translation (hope thats ok):
Chain 3 = Luftmache
3 tr – treble crochet = doppeltes Stäbchen
3 dc – double crochet = (ganzes/einfaches) Stäbchen
chain 1 = Luftmache
1 tr – treble crochet = doppeltes Stäbchen
chain 1 = Luftmache
3 dc – double crochet = (ganzes/einfaches) Stäbchen
3 tr – treble crochet = doppeltes Stäbchen
chain 3 in the ring = Luftmache und schließen

Wink,
If you wanted to use this pattern (which is SO lovely, btw, thank you so much) but wanted a bit bigger heart, would you just make increases?

Hey Chris, thank you so much! I haven’t actually tried it, but if I wanted to make them bigger, I would increase in the round halves at the top, and in the point on the bottom. Try it out; let me know if it works! :)
