review and giveaway: stitching for the kitchen

I’ve got such a cute book to share with you today! It’s Gooseberry Patch’s latest: Stitching for the Kitchen; 30 easy sewing, patchwork and embroidery projects for the heart of your home. It’s published by Sixth&Spring Books, New York, and it is truly adorable.

book-cover

There are two parts to this book. The first is ‘Let’s Get Stitching’, and features all 30 projects in the book. Part two is ‘Tips and Techniques’, and has all sorts of useful information like embroidery techniques, measurement conversion charts and more.

The projects and patterns in this book are very diverse, and make this a great book to gift to a crafty relative or friend!

The projects don’t come with skill levels; they’re suited for everyone. Most sewing patterns have pattern sheets available, which are at the back of the book in a little folder; and they’re full size! So no need to resize everything.

The instructions are clear and well written, and are livened up by super cute illustrations of pies and cookies. Pies and cookies people!

There are a couple of crochet projects in the book, like a cute rag rug made from fabric scraps. The book has a couple of pages with crochet stitch explanations, featuring illustrations that I think most people will understand. They use US terms and abbreviations for the stitches.

spring-bound

But my absolute favorite feature of of this book? It’s spiral bound, meaning it lays totally flat when it’s opened! More publishers should do this; it’s such a good feature!

This book retails for $17.71 (on Amazon here) and I think it’s a great gift to give. It’s a versatile book and although some projects aren’t for everyone, there are enough projects in there to make you happy :)

You can win a copy of this book, too! Just leave a comment here saying what projects you like best (sewing, embroidery, patchwork, crochet, knitting, other). I’ll pick a winner next week! :)

  46. I do love sewing projects quite a bit, especially the little girlie dresses I’ve been sewing for my 1 yr old Granddaughter who, along with her parents are living here temporarily. She is so cute wanting to put them on right away. In the past few years however, I have been learning to quilt so much of my time is now spent making quilt blocks and quilts or quilt projects. In following the blog tour/hop for this book, I have really liked a lot of the projects that have been shown. I think my favorite so far has to be the little owl tea cozy. That’s such a cute idea.
