Hurray, free pattern day! :)
Today I’m sharing the pattern I used to make this newsboy-like slouchy ribbed hat.
You’ll need:
– Scheepjes Roma Big yarn, 1 skein
– a 12mm crochet hook
– 1 big darning needle
– scissors
This pattern uses US terms and abbreviatons. Stitches include double crochet (dc), half double crochet (hdc), single crochet (sc), and front post double crochet (fpdc).
1. In a magic ring, chain 3, 11 dc. Join with sl st to top ch. Pull the ring closed.
2. Ch 3, work 1 fpdc around the underlying ch 3. Work *[1dc, 1fpdc]* around. Join with sl st.
3. Ch 3, work 1dc into the next st, then work 1 fpdc around the next underlying st. Work *2dc, 1fpdc* around. Join with sl st.
4. Ch 3, 2dc, 1 fpdc around the next underlying st. Work *3dc, 1fpdc* around. Join with sl st.
5. Ch 3, 3dc, 1 fpdc around the next underlying st. Work *4dc, 1fpdc* around. Join with sl st. Repeat this row 3 more times.
9. Chain 2, 1 hdc, then *sk 1 st, 2hdc* around. Join with sl st.
10. Chain 2, *1hdc* around. Join with sl st. Repeat this row 1 more time.
12. Chain 2, 2hdc, then *sk 1 st, 3hdc* around. Join with sl st.
If you don’t want the little flap on your hat, FO here.
To make the flap:
13. Chain 1, working in front loops only, 14 sc.
14. Chain 1, turn, working in back loops only, skip first st, 12 sc.
15. Chain 1, turn, working in front loops only, skip first st, 10sc. FO.
When you combine this hat with the posh ruffle scarf, you get a very groovy and definitely posh combination! :)
I’ll be wearing this combination a lot! Temperatures have dropped drastically over here, and I need all the help I can get staying warm outside :)
xo,
wink

P.s if you want to have a look at my hat I’ve just written a post. Here’s the link…

Thanks so much for sharing these patterns!! I have a friend who has your same coloring and artistic sense who has been known to wear these colors. I’m going to try to find comparable threads locally to surprise her with this set.

Your mandala pictures are my home screen on my computer. I love the colors, just wish I had the courage to crochet one of the more intricate ones. For your drawing, my favorite
hook size is “H”. My favorite stitch is a half double crochet or hdc. It seems to have a little more height and bulk than a sc and not as much as a dc. I love reading your posts but my real adoration is with your color choices. Very inspirational. Hugs from Arizona.

Jeey! Finally a hat witch doesn’t look ridiculous on me! Made 2 now, one with Olympia yarn from Lana Grossa, witch creates a fun effect on the pattern! Turned out a bit smaller so I added a row at step 5 and also on the flap. Turned out great! Thank you for sharing this pattern!
