made: scheepjes CAL 2014 blanket

Hi everyone! :)

12 Weeks. 10 Square patterns. 1 Joining pattern. 1 Border pattern. 1 Crazy active Facebook group with over 7,000 ladies in it, making the most gorgeous blankets I have ever seen. All ingredients for the Best CAL Ever! :) Well, at least of 2014, according to Kathryn Vercillo from the popular Crochet Concupiscence blog, who awarded the Scheepjes CAL 2014 with an Awesome Blog Award for best CAL of the year!

Now that all the patterns have been released, I thought it was time to show you my rendition of the Scheepjes CAL 2014 blanket! :)

I had SO much fun doing this CAL with you all! And I mean you ALL – did you know that this was the most international CAL I have ever done? There were people from The Netherlands, the US, the UK, India, Australia, and I can keep going naming countries for a while because there were people from literally EVERYWHERE! :)

It was a lot of hard work, but it was worth it. There were some people in the Facebook group who decided it was more fun to harass and threaten me than to join in on the fun and make the blanket. But now that the CAL is over I can look back with a happy heart to all the lovely people who made it a succes, and the memories of those less-than-nice people quickly faded away!

This CAL has allowed me to go on tour throughout The Netherlands, to give small workshops, called Make & Takes, and to meet crocheters everywhere for meet & greets. I will write a blog post about the tour later; I’ve got a lot of awesome photos I want to share with you! :)

I want to extend a special thank you to my sponsor for this CAL, Dutch-based yarn brand Scheepjes. They have been more than amazing in organizing this CAL and I truly could not have done it without them!

I am getting all sentimental about all this, haha! I am just going to miss this CAL! But not to worry; there will be a new CAL next year: the Scheepjes Springtime CAL! :D If you want to keep up to date about the new CAL just keep reading my blog (or subscribe in the sidebar to the right), my social media channels, or the Facebook group, where I will post updates as soon as I have something to share with you all! The new CAL will be wonderful and colourful, just like you’re used from me :)

If you’re just finding out about the Scheepjes CAL 2014; you can find all of the patterns for the squares, the joining, and the border on this special page right here. The patterns are free and will stay free! You can download them as PDF’s. There are four languages available: English, Dutch, German, and French. If you’re ever stuck on a pattern you can join our Facebook group. There are 2 yarn kits still available for this CAL that you can order from; kit 1 ‘Succulent’ and kit 2 ‘Autumnal’.

Thank you for making this CAL the best CAL!

  4. I want to deeply thank you for these wonderful patterns. I did not know what a sc was when I joined the CAL2014 let alone how to follow a pattern. Your patterns were very easy to read and I now consider myself an intermediate crocheter. I can not express the joy and anticipation each week as a new design was released. Thank you for all your hard work. I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

  5. I’ve been crocheting for about 55 yrs., and this is the first CAL I’ve ever joined! It was a wonderful experience, very well organized and timed, patterns were clear and easy enough for beginners to understand! I have never liked piece work, and I still don’t, but, the challenge of finishing all the squares has truly been a test! Thank you for your diligence and hard work getting this done. The different countries and amount of people involved is a testament to you and your dedication to what you love. Thank you.

  20. Ah Marinke…because of you, Scheeps, Facebook, your blog and this CAL, my life has changed forever! Been crocheting for forty years and this was my first CAL! I was terrified. Now THAT was an unfounded fear. My Facebook friends list has grown as have my skills. I am no longer locked in “ripple-land”!!! My blanket is beautiful and I will be posting a picture of my step daughter with her new blanket after she opens it on Christmas. I’m so sad this CAL is over and I will participate in the next as well. Meanwhile I search and search for a CAL that can compare. So far no luck. I think you have spoiled me! Marinke, YOU ROCK!

  21. Marinke, thank you so much. I have never, ever had a hobby/project that made me so excited before. So much so, that I was dreaming about it, thinking about it most of the day, wondering about colour combinations, etc. It has been such a pleasure. Congratulations on winning the best CAL – you certainly deserve it.
Have a wonderful Christmas and a good rest!
